End of November 2008, North atlantic ocean, powerful depressions follow on. Time to test Black Cap's skills to sail in serious weather conditions.
Black Cap as the one worn by Dick Newick, legendary guru-designer of high performance multihulls. Having met Newick, Xavier Sergent, skipper and multihulls lover, initiated in 2003 the construction of a 36 feet multihull based on the Echo II Newick's plan. Appreciating the elegant lines designed by Newick, Xavier has worked hard to build up this boat using hi-tech material.
Four years later, the three bright yellow hulls finally touch water at Xavier's shipyard in Trebeurden, Brittany, France.
Ready for a real test, Black Cap leaves Brittany on the 20th of November 2008 to reach La Corona, Spain two days later. Sailing back has been a bit longer with a one night halt in Crozon to avoid 35 knots winds.
This first run definitely emphasised Newick's demands: simplicity and speed.
